FBI agent describes grisly warehouse in start of body broker's trial Posted: 05 Jan 2018 10:54 AM PST By Steve Friess and John Shiffman DETROIT (Reuters) - The warehouse of a Michigan man who sold donated body parts to researchers was littered with dead flies, dog bowls and human remains "frozen together in flesh-on-flesh chunks," a federal agent testified Friday. The grisly description came during the opening day in the federal trial of businessman Arthur Rathburn, who sold or leased donated body parts, including human heads, to medical researchers for two decades. Rathburn, however, is charged with defrauding customers by selling them body parts infected with hepatitis and HIV, and with lying to federal agents about shipments. |

South Korea may turn its amphibious assault ships into nascent aircraft carriers—according to a report by the Yonhap News Agency, at least. In a report from late last month, Yonhap claimed that South Korean military officials are considering a plan to reconfigure their fourteen-thousand-ton Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships to carry the F-35B. |

Two weeks before Ms Bollinger went missing, she was granted a permanent restraining order against a stalker. In a Facebook post, Ms Bollinger claimed her stalker was 42-year-old Shawn Schwartz, a man she became friends with two years ago. |

Saudi arrests 11 princes over anti-austerity protest: media Posted: 06 Jan 2018 06:18 AM PST Saudi authorities have arrested 11 princes who protested against the kingdom's austerity measures and who could face trial, a news website close to the government reported on Saturday. Sabq said the princes, who were not named, were protesting at a historical Riyadh royal palace, Qasr al-Hokm, against a government's decision to stop paying the water and electricity bills of royals. The princes were transferred to the high-security Ha'ir prison in the capital "ahead of their trial", Sabq said, citing unnamed sources. |

Scott Tucker, 55, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel in Manhattan. Tucker did not make a statement at his sentencing, referring instead to a letter he submitted to the court in December. |

FBI launches new investigation into Hillary Clinton's charitable foundation Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:00 AM PST An investigation has been launched by the US Justice Department into whether the Clinton Foundation conducted "pay-to-play" politics or illegal activities while Hillary Clinton served as secretary of State. FBI agents from Little Rock, Arkansas, where the foundation has offices in former President Bill Clinton's presidential library, have taken the lead in the probe, The Hill reported. The Hill reported that officials, who spoke anonymously, said the investigation was looking at whether the Clintons promised or performed any policy favours in exchange for contributions to their charitable efforts. |

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told U.S. media it was too early to tell if the inter-Korea meeting could open the way for future talks involving the United States, but he stressed that if such talks came about they would have to be aimed at North Korean denuclearization. South Korea said North Korea had sent its consent for the talks to be held next Tuesday at the border truce village of Panmunjom. |

Clashes break out near South Sudan capital in truce violation Posted: 05 Jan 2018 11:45 PM PST By Denis Dumo JUBA (Reuters) - Clashes have broken out near South Sudan's capital Juba between government troops and rebels, officials said on Friday, the latest violation of a ceasefire signed last month. The deal reached in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa between the government of President Salva Kiir and a myriad of opposition groups had aimed to end a four-year-old war in which tens of thousands of people have been killed. On Friday, the army's spokesman Lul Ruai Koang said several people were killed after rebel troops attempted to seize a military outpost west of Juba held by Kiir's Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA). |

On December 31, the Supreme Court upheld the Central Election Commission's decision that Navalny cannot register as a candidate due to an embezzlement conviction which the opposition politician says is politically motivated.
