Coli food poisoning cases linked to Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc in Oregon and Washington state rose to 35 on Tuesday, as the company announced steps to improve food safety. Chipotle, which is grappling with its third food safety incident this year, has closed all its 43 restaurants located in and around Seattle and Portland because of the E. coli O26 outbreak. Eight Chipotle restaurants have been tied to the outbreak. |
Top New York lawmaker 'betrayed' people for own profit -prosecutors Posted: 03 Nov 2015 11:48 AM PST Sheldon Silver, one of New York State's most influential lawmakers for two decades, abused his position to earn millions of dollars in illegal kickbacks, federal prosecutors told a jury on Tuesday. "This is a case about a powerful politician who betrayed those he was supposed to serve in order to line his own pockets," Assistant U.S. Attorney Carrie Cohen said as Silver's criminal trial began in a Manhattan courthouse, just steps from the Lower East Side district that Silver has represented in the state Assembly since 1976. |
Three-quarters of U.S. OPM hack victims still in dark Posted: 03 Nov 2015 12:20 PM PST Fewer than a quarter of 21 million federal workers hit by a major computer hack have been officially told that their personal information was compromised, six months after the breach was detected, a U.S. government official said on Tuesday. About 5 million notifications about the hack have been sent out so far, a spokesperson for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) told Reuters in an email. After it fell victim to two successive cyber attacks, both begun in 2014 and revealed earlier this year, OPM was roundly criticized by lawmakers for its response. |
Activision buys Candy Crush maker King for $5.9 billion Posted: 02 Nov 2015 08:23 PM PST Activision Blizzard announced today it will acquire King Digital Entertainment, the company behind mobile hits Candy Crush Saga and Bubble Witch Saga, in a $5.9 billion deal. The acquisition of King will make Activision Blizzard "one of the largest global entertainment networks with over half a billion combined monthly active users in 196 countries," according to a release. The acquisition is subject to approval by King's shareholders and the Irish government, but is expected to be complete by spring 2016, Activision Blizzard said. |
