Big U.S. data breaches offer treasure trove for hackers Posted: 06 Jun 2015 08:31 AM PDT By Andrea Shalal WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A massive breach of U.S. federal computer networks disclosed this week is the latest in a flood of attacks by suspected Chinese hackers aimed at grabbing personal data, industrial secrets and weapons plans from government and private computers. The Obama administration on Thursday disclosed the breach of computer systems at the Office of Personnel Management and said the records of up to 4 million current and former federal employees may have been compromised. U.S. officials have said on condition of anonymity they believe the hackers are based in China, but Washington has not publicly blamed Beijing at a time when tensions are high over Chinese territorial claims in the South China Sea. |

TLC's Duggar daughters say forgive brother for molestation Posted: 05 Jun 2015 07:27 PM PDT Two of the daughters in TLC's reality show "19 Kids and Counting," told Fox News on Friday that they had forgiven their brother Josh Duggar for molesting them in the past, but said they felt 'revictimized' in recent weeks by the media outlets that have dredged up the juvenile offenses. Jill Dillard, 24, and Jessa Seewald, 22, told "The Kelly File" host Megyn Kelly that they weren't initially aware of inappropriate advances around 12 years ago from their then-teenaged brother. "It was very subtle, and so I think that for us, we realized this is serious, but at the same time, it wasn't like a horror story." Dillard and Seewald, both now married, said that their family had forgiven Josh Duggar, now 27, who was never arrested or charged for the offences that involved four sisters and a babysitter, including a girl aged under 10 at the time. |
IS using chlorine as a weapon, Australia’s Foreign Minister says Posted: 05 Jun 2015 09:00 PM PDT By Morag MacKinnon PERTH (Reuters) - Islamic State militants have used chlorine as a weapon and are recruiting highly trained technicians in a serious bid to develop chemical weapons, Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop warned. In a speech to an international forum of nations that works to fight the spread of such weapons, Bishop said the rise of militant groups such as ISIS, also known as Daish, posed "one of the gravest security threats we face today." "Apart from some crude and small scale endeavors, the conventional wisdom has been that the terrorist intention to acquire and weaponize chemical agents has been largely aspirational," Bishop told a meeting of the Australia Group in Perth. "The use of chlorine by Daish, and its recruitment of highly technically trained professionals, including from the West, have revealed far more serious efforts in chemical weapons development," she said. |
