'Panic buying' sparks N.Y. fuel crisis Posted: 02 Nov 2012 03:37 PM PDT NEW YORK (Reuters) - A third day of gasoline "panic buying" among storm-stricken New York area motorists prompted authorities on Friday to tap strategic oil reserves and waive shipping regulations even as limited deliveries resumed in the battered region. The U.S. government said it will loan 2 million gallons of diesel from the Northeast emergency heating oil reserve to the military for recovery efforts, and waived rules barring foreign-flagged vessels from carrying fuel between U.S. ports in a bid to boost supplies. ... |

Hyundai, Kia to compensate owners for overstating mileage Posted: 02 Nov 2012 10:08 AM PDT For the past few years, Hyundai has touted itself as selling more vehicles that achieve 40 mpg on the highway than any other automaker. Today, U.S. federal regulators announced that Hyundai and Kia Motors had inflated the fuel economy ratings on 900,000 vehicles sold since 2010. The automakers will compensate owners for their extra burned fuel — and kill their incorrect ads as well. |
