"Already politicians like Boris Johnson are once again trying to distort the truth and announce that the OPCW statement supports Britain's conclusions without exception," Sergei Lavrov said. "I will underline that the OPCW confirmed only the contents of the chemical substance," he said. |

Posted: 12 Apr 2018 04:23 PM PDT Theresa May's cabinet has agreed on the need to "take action" to deter use of chemical weapons following an emergency meeting at Downing Street. President Donald Trump had warned Russia of imminent military action in Syria, declaring missiles "will be coming" and denouncing Moscow for standing by Syria's president, but on Thursday night the White House said that "no final decision" had been made about what Washington will do. Mr Trump, Ms May and French President Emmanuel Macron have been in regular contact as they plot a course of action, with Mr Macron saying France has "proof" the Syrian government carried out the chemical attack which killed potentially doxens. |

State broadcaster China Central Television showed footage of Xi boarding the destroyer Changsha before sailing to an unspecified location in the South China Sea and watching the procession, which involved more than 10,000 naval officers, 76 fighter jets, and a flotilla of 48 warships and submarines. Xi told the assembled troops that China's need for a world-leading naval force "has never been more pressing than today" and urged them to devote their unswerving loyalty to the party, before watching through binoculars four J-15 fighter jets take off from the Liaoning, China's sole operational aircraft carrier. |

Venture capitalist Tim Draper said he had gathered about 600,000 signatures on a petition to put his proposal to divide California on the November ballot, just over the 585,000 needed to qualify. Draper, who in 2014 and 2016 failed in his efforts to win approval for a ballot initiative to divide the state into six parts, said in a news release Thursday that he planned to file the signatures with Secretary of State Alex Padilla's office next week. |

In just the fourth such opening this year, the Rafah crossing to Egypt's Sinai region will be open until Saturday for humanitarian cases, the interior ministry in Gaza said.
